Day 0 – Camp Prep and Graduation

Note: I’ll update this with pics once we get internet again.

We had a busy Day 0 today (Sunday). We split up in the morning.  Jeane and I went to a graduation while the rest stayed at the hogar to do our usual Day 0 activities. Day 0 has to main goals, 1) get to know the girls and their names and 2) get unpacked and organized. Jeane and I attended A and N’s graduation because we’ve known them since they were 8.

Graduation was such a joyous occasion. Like our girls, most of the students at this school came from humble families.  The administrators, teachers, a local singer all encouraged them to continue learning. This was a polytechnic school where they get the high school diploma and a certificate in a career. The careers were information sciences, nutrition, electronics, electro-mechanc, agriculture. Many of them will work a year before going on to more education.  It was a long hot day, but very happy.

Here are our two graduates! Past travelers recognize them 😀

In the meantime, 6 travelers (all mother-daughter pairs) stayed and unpacked our donations and our room, tie-dyed all the shirts!!! Plus they learned everyone’s named!! (I’ll add pictures later).

Once we all got back together, we played and rested. Then we had “Mass in the Asphalt” (St. Ed’s parishioners will understand that reference). We had a nice breeze and slightly cooler weather – very special.

Finally it was grad party time.  Food, music, dancing, decorations, and gifts. Plus each grad said a few words.

We slept well that night!!

I’m going to post only text until I can get back online . The internet isn’t working much here.
